QuarterCade FAQ
Q: What’s the QuarterCade?
A: The QuarterCade is a PC/Console Hybrid — a home video game console built with PC-grade hardware and running its own custom console operating system. That means you get the power and flexibility of a gaming PC, but in the form of a plug-and-play console with a streamlined interface made for the living room.
Q: How is it different from other options on the market?
A: Unlike traditional consoles that lock you into one store, the QuarterCade lets you play from multiple libraries — Steam, Epic, GOG, indie storefronts, and more — all in one place. And at $349, it delivers this freedom at a fraction of the cost of competing consoles and gaming PCs.
Q: Is this legal?
A: Yes. The QuarterCade doesn’t ship with pirated software or unlicensed games. It’s a legitimate home console that gives you access to official game stores and lets you choose what to install.
Q: Is it just an emulation device?
A: No. Emulation is supported for those who love classic games, but the QuarterCade is a fully capable modern console. It’s built to play today’s major titles alongside retro favorites, giving you both in one system.
Q: There have been other attempts at indie video game consoles that have failed such as the SouljaGame by SouljaBoy (the rapper) as well as the Ouya. How is the QuarterCade different?
A: The QuarterCade isn’t a rebranded knockoff or a half-funded experiment. It’s built on proven PC hardware, runs a custom console operating system, and gives players access to legitimate game libraries like Steam, Epic, and GOG — not a handful of preloaded titles. Where others cut corners or lacked support, the QuarterCade is designed for long-term value, flexibility, and a clear vision: an affordable, fully capable home video game console.
Q: What controllers does it use?
A: The QuarterCade supports Xbox, PlayStation, Switch Pro, and most Bluetooth/USB controllers out of the box. We’re also working on our own branded wireless controller featuring anti-stick drift hall effect technology.
Q: How can I get one?
A: The QuarterCade will first be available through our Indiegogo campaign. Backers will be the first to secure a unit before it hits retail.
Q: What makes this better than consoles like the Nintendo Switch 2 or PlayStation 5?
A: Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo all lock you into one library and keep raising prices. The QuarterCade breaks down those walls. You get the freedom to enjoy blockbuster hits, indie gems, and retro titles — all in one console — without being trapped in a single ecosystem. And you get it for less than half the price of some of those systems.
Q: Isn’t this just a Steam Machine?
A: Not quite. Steam Machines were an exciting idea focused mainly on Steam. The QuarterCade builds on that spirit but expands it into a true hybrid console — supporting Steam and other stores as well as emulation. Think of it as a natural evolution of that vision but with a bit more accessibility for gamers who aren’t as tech-savvy.
Q: What are the specs?
A: The QuarterCade features an AMD Ryzen processor with Radeon graphics, 32GB of fast DDR5 memory, HDMI and USB ports, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Ethernet. Final specs may vary slightly due to recent changes in chip availability.
Q: What can it play?
A: The QuarterCade can run a massive variety of games — from recent hits like Elden Ring and Fortnite, to indie favorites, to retro classics through emulation. While every game has its own requirements, the QuarterCade is built to give you a wide library of choices, both new and old.
Q: Why is the QuarterCade only $349 when other consoles cost $500–$700?
A: Because we built it differently. The “Big 3” (Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo) spend billions locking you into their ecosystems, pushing accessories, and raising prices. The QuarterCade cuts out the gimmicks and focuses on what matters: giving you a powerful, flexible, home console at a fair price. By using proven PC hardware in a console form factor and running our custom operating system, we can keep costs low while delivering performance that rivals or beats consoles nearly twice the price.
Q: Hail, Nintendo! We don’t like what you’re doing.
A: Too bad.
